In 2016, the University of Washington launched the most expansive philanthropic campaign in their history to transform the lives of students and all of the people they serve. It was a spectacular multimedia experience that celebrated the UW’s storied past and promising future through light, sound and story.
Together celebrated not only the past history of the University of Washington, but also looked to the future. By using projection mapping and taking advantage of the venue’s layout, we brought the campaign’s tagline of Be Boundless to life.
As the Interactive Art Director, I oversaw all in-venue graphics and video. From the initial 30 second teaser to the projection mapped opening video, no detail was overlooked while creating this massive experience for the sold-out crowd.
We wanted to not only reveal the campaign’s tagline of Be Boundless in a unique and memorable way, but we also wanted to bring it to life. The usage of on-brand inspiring copy motivated the students to take action with the final CTA also being the tag reveal.
The opening overture kicked off the event by remembering UW’s rich history while also inspiring students to look to the future. Starting small and only being shown on the jumbotron, historic photos are revealed which slowly builds using the music composed specifically for the video. At the crescendo, the projection mapping on the basketball court created a “wow” moment for the audience.
